[Video of this waza fast and slow, from the side, and ideally, overhead]

Defense against a knife slash to abdomen

  • Execute a crescent kick to strike the thumb joint or inner wrist, forcing the attacker to lose their grip on the weapon.
    • If this fails, you wind up performing a equally-valid crescent kick block, to swat the knife aside.
  • Do not set your foot down upon re-chambering. Immediately side kick to the opponent’s abdomen, groin, or knees.

Notes

This waza is admittedly, more of a parlor trick than a self-defense technique. Always grab and retain control of the hand holding the weapon in any altercation.
