Defense against a pursuit punch
This technique works equally well to both the inside and the outside.
Inside version

- Twist inside, with an inside elbow break.
- Grab the opponent’s wrist with the outside hand.
- Execute a makkikomi-shutō to the floating ribs with your inside hand.
- Inside arm lever the opponent down into a knee kick to the solar plexus.
- Enter a horse stance with a downward elbow strike to the upper spine or the back of the neck.
Outside version
[Video of this waza fast and slow, from the side, and ideally, overhead]
- Twist outside, with an outside elbow break.
- Execute a makkikomi-shutō to the floating ribs with your inside hand.
- Grab the opponent’s wrist with the outside hand and outside arm lever the opponent down into a knee kick to the solar plexus.
- Enter a horse stance with a downward elbow strike to the upper spine or the back of the neck.
