This technique works equally well to both the inside and the outside.
Defense against a pursuit punch
Inside version

- Twist inside, with an inside elbow break.
- Grab the opponent’s wrist with the outside hand.
- Attack the opponent's floating ribs with a makkikomi-shutō with your inside hand.
- Inside arm lever the opponent down into a knee kick to the solar plexus.
- Enter a horse stance with a downward elbow strike to the opponent's upper spine or the back of their neck.
Outside version

- Twist outside, with an outside elbow break.
- Attack the opponent's floating ribs with a makkikomi-shutō with your inside hand.
- Grab the opponent’s wrist with your outside hand and outside arm lever the opponent down into a knee kick to the solar plexus.
