Defense against a double lapel grab
- Step back into cat stance to pull the opponent forward slightly, compromising their balance.
- Front kick to the groin, as an atemi.
- Execute a double ude uke, to smash the opponent’s wrists together. This will prompt the opponent to spread their arms hands apart to reassert control. Do not resist; immediately reverse direction and knock their arms aside with a double cross-body block.
- Step in, and wrap your hands around the opponent’s neck, pulling them down into a knee kick to the chin.
- Intermediate students and advanced students can include bonus double tate-shutō strikes, quickly striking both sides of the neck as you reach in for the grab.
