*Your hands are held in front of your hips, with your hand clenched in fists, with unturned wrists, as a sign of peaceful intent. It may seem strange for clenched fists to be a sign of peace; however, when standing in this position, you can't conceal a knife or other weapon with sleight-of-hand tricks. &lt;br /&gt;

Also, coupled to this stance is the notion of fudōshin -- an “immovable mind” which cannot be disturbed. Fudōshin responds to any crisis a without losing composure, meeting each challenge with an icy jadedness. It is a mind that can unhesitatingly devote its full attention to anywhere it is needed, making the appropriate and correct decision without consulting the internal monologue for its approval.
